Aerial Dancers Collaborate with Photographer in Carrboro, NC
January provided an opportunity for Imagine Circus to collaborate with local photographer Brooke Meyer for an aerial photoshoot. Featured apparatuses included aerial hammock, aerial silks, and lollipop lyra. Taking place in Carrboro, NC, Meyer captured shots of aerial performers in solo and partner poses.
Solo & Duo Acts on Aerial Silks
Aerial silks, also referred to as aerial ribbons or tissue, are strong yet flexible. This special type of interwoven fabric bears weight and also stretches. As a result, performers can dance in the fabric, climbing and twirling with precise movements. Most impressively, aerial performers use special wrap techniques to “drop,” creating truly captivating performances.
Dancers Perform in Aerial Hammock
An aerial hammock is made out of the same material as aerial silks but is doubled over to make a loop. Aerial hammock provides a perch for performers to pose and contort in unique positions. Ideal for aerial bartending, aerial hammock is a great place to serve bubbly beverages.
Learn about our “Lollipop Lyra”
The aerial hoop, otherwise known as a “lollipop lyra” is an aerial apparatus that includes a small stage and pole with a hoop at the top. Rather than suspending this apparatus from the ceiling, it is supported from the ground. As a result, the lollipop lyra provides aerial entertainment but fits in small spaces and venues with low ceilings. This sleek design makes it an excellent option for events with no aerial rigging capabilities.
What is Aerial Bartending?
In addition to bending, and stretching, and creating beautiful shapes, aerial performers offer the unique experience of aerial bartending. Aerial dancers ascend fabric or a hoop to pour bubbly beverages and pose with guests. Aerial bartending offers an interactive performance that combines service, style, and entertainment.
